Dear Members,
The Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), adopted by the European Union, introduces new obligations for packaging placed on the EU market.
Please find attached the TKSD Information Note we have prepared on the ‘Current Situation and Expected Obligations for Companies Exporting to the EU under the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR)’.
CBAM for carbon, PPWR for packaging, and ESPR for product sustainability should be regarded as the key regulations of this new era, in which these have become the language of trade. It is of critical importance that these regulations are monitored holistically and that members prepare in good time to ensure the Turkish chemical industry can maintain its competitive edge in the EU market.
Within the scope of the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), which will be phased in from 12 August 2026, the following:
- The recyclable design of packaging,
- The use of recycled content in plastic packaging,
- The reduction of packaging volumes,
- New labelling requirements,
- Data management and traceability requirements
will come to the forefront.
It is important for our companies exporting to the EU to be prepared for any enquiries regarding information and compliance that may arise from their customers.
In this context, it is recommended that companies:
- review their packaging inventories,
- determine the composition of their materials,
- identify the proportion of recycled content and
- commence packaging compliance assessments.
We hereby bring this to your attention
Sincerely,
TKSD
