The EU Council adopted the Net-Zero Industry Act (NZIA) on May 27, 2024. 

The NZIA, first unveiled on March 16, 2023 by the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen as part of the Green Deal Industrial Plan1 , was adopted by a vote in the EP on February 25, 2024 and received final approval by the European Council on May 27, 2024. The law is expected to enter into force at the end of June following its publication in the EU Official Journal.

According to the EU Commission, the NZIA has been launched at a time when Europe is already importing the technologies needed to meet its climate and energy goals, and at a time when major government initiatives are increasing globally to capture a share of the rapidly developing market to facilitate the transition to net zero.
