Dear Members,
The ISO 9001:2026 Quality Management Systems Standard was published on 16 September 2026, replacing the ISO 9001:2015 standard.
The new revision does not constitute a fundamental change requiring organisations to rebuild their quality management systems from scratch. Whilst the existing structure is retained, the following areas in particular have been given greater prominence:
- Top management’s responsibility for quality culture and ethical conduct,
- Linking the quality policy to the organisation’s context and strategic direction,
- A clearer and more distinct treatment of risks and opportunities,
- The planning and management of changes,
- Staff awareness of quality culture and ethical conduct,
- Organisational knowledge, digital working practices, supply chain continuity and customer communication,
- The updating of internal audit and management review processes in line with the new requirements.
Organisations holding an accredited ISO 9001:2015 certificate must complete their transition by 30 September 2029 at the latest. From 31 March 2028 onwards, new and initial accredited certifications will be carried out exclusively under ISO 9001:2026.
In this context, it is recommended that our members take the following steps without postponing the transition process until the final year:
- Obtain the licensed text of the standard,
- Conduct a gap analysis of their existing systems,
- Identify the processes and documents that will be affected,
- Plan internal audit and management review activities covering the new requirements,
- Clarify in writing with their certification bodies under which audit the transition audit will be carried out.
As TKSD, you can access the “ISO 9001:2026 Revision and Transition Process – TKSD Member Information Note”, prepared for our members and which includes the key changes in the ISO 9001:2026 revision, the transition timetable and the recommended preparatory steps for organisations, here.
Note: This information note has been prepared for general information purposes only; in practice, the licensed ISO 9001:2026 text, announcements by TSE and TÜRKAK, and written guidance provided by your organisation’s certification body must be followed.
Respectfully,
Turkish Chemical Manufacturers Association
