Cefic, alongside over 90 key European organisations, calls on the EU Institutions to significantly increase the budget for the upcoming Framework Programme 10 (FP10) for Research and Innovation.
In a joint statement , 95 organisations underline the critical need to make pan-European collaborative research the cornerstone of FP10, addressing industrial needs with excellence and ensuring Europe’s leadership in the global technology race.
As global technological advancements accelerate, Europe lags behind in research, development, and innovation (RD&I) investments, particularly from the private sector. This shortfall threatens the EU’s ability to harness its full scientific and technological potential, potentially impacting its long-term competitiveness.
The joint statement calls for:
- Increased budget and strategic allocation: Significantly increasing the RD&I budget within the next EU Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF), with a focus on cross-border collaborative RD&I driven by strategic EU priorities and industrial needs.
- Focus on industrial competitiveness: Strengthening Pillar II, the core collaborative component of the Framework Programme, to foster long-term public-private partnerships, stimulate private investments, and ensure the industry’s adoption of novel technologies.
- Support for technology-intensive sectors: Demonstrating EU’s commitment to technology-intensive sectors to reduce risks and incentivise private sector investments, thereby supporting the EU’s green and digital transitions.
Cefic, alongside co-signatories, is ready to collaborate with EU Institutions in designing FP10, leveraging public and private RD&I expertise to secure Europe’s position in the global innovation race and ensure a prosperous, sustainable future.
