As announced by the European Association for Cleaning and Maintenance Products (A.I.S.E.), the New Detergents and Surfactants Regulation – (EU) 2026/405 has been published in the Official Journal of the European Union.

The Regulation will enter into force on 22 March 2026, and its provisions will become binding for the sector from 23 September 2029.

The new regulation was adopted following trialogue negotiations, which began with a proposal submitted by the European Commission in 2023, followed by extensive negotiations with the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union, and culminating in a political agreement reached in June 2025.

A.I.S.E. contributed to the work by providing science-based input throughout the revision process, coordinating industry views and actively engaging with policymakers. It states that it will continue its work to inform the industry and provide support for compliance with the new requirements during the transition to implementation.

Further developments are expected in the coming period regarding secondary regulations and technical details related to implementation. Updates on this matter will also be shared with our members.
