Today, President Ursula von der Leyen presented her Political Guidelines for the next European Commission 2024-2029 to the European Parliament resulting in her re-election for a second 5-year term as European Commission President.

Marco Mensink, Cefic Director General stated:

“We congratulate Ursula von der Leyen on her re-election as President of the European Commission. By announcing a Clean Industrial Deal and a European Competitiveness Fund she echoes what was previously acknowledged by Eu leaders in the Eu Stategic Agenda for the next five years: The future of our prosperity must indeed  be made in Europe.

We are grateful that six months since the European Industry Summit, the collective voice of 25 industrial sectors represented by nearly 1,300 stakeholders that signed the Antwerp Declaration has been heard loud and clear. It’s indeed time for Europe to “switch gears” towards competitiveness. A Clean Industrial Deal will safeguard the competitiveness of Europe’s energy-intensive industries and allow us to achieve our common aspirations to implement the EU Green Deal.

We look forward to working with the new European Commission and European Parliament on these initiatives towards a greener, prosperous, and more competitive Europe. Together, we can ensure that the future of clean and cutting-edge technology is made in Europe.”

- Marco Mensink, Cefic Director General
